Student Showcase

Students enrolled in upper-division courses in French in the Department of Modern Languages produce academic and creative work that showcases their increasing proficiency in their languages of choice. Here are examples of the ways students in French make use of their language(s) in the classroom, on the Web, in front of the camera, and on the stage.

Acting French

Acting French is designed to strengthen reading skills and oral command of the language through the study and performance of French plays.  The spring 2011 students performed a modified version of Alfred Jarry's burlesque play, Ubu roi, and provided light musical entertainment in between acts.

French Composition and Stylistics

In this course, students explore a variety of expository techniques from description, narration, dialogue, portraits, to the writing of letters. This semester, students also wrote a collective story (a mystery) in which they worked sometimes individually, sometimes in pairs, and sometimes as a group to define, compose, and select the successive chapters composing the story.
