Lucy Harney is from Houston, Texas. She attended Texas Tech University where she studied English, Spanish, and Music. She obtained her doctorate in Comparative Literature at UT Austin in 1997. Professor Harney has taught Spanish at Texas State University part-time since 1991, and full-time since 1997. She currently teaches classes in Business Spanish, Literature and Composition. She also directs Texas Statešs study abroad program in Monterrey, Mexico each summer (see Monterrey Study Abroad) and supervises internships for Spanish students. Professor Harney's research interests include nineteenth-century literature, music theater, and cultural studies in Spain and Cuba.
