Italian classes are offered through extension studies.
Undergraduate Courses in Italian (ITA)
1410 Beginning Italian I. (4-0) Introduction to listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills within an Italian cultural framework. This class is taught on campus, through the Correspndence & Extensions office.
1420 Beginning Italian II. (4-0) Continued practice in listening, speaking, reading and writing skills within an Italian cultural framework. This class is taught on campus, through the Correspndence & Extensions office.
The following two classes are usually taught in Florence, Italy during Summer Session 1:
2310 Intermediate Italian I. (3-0) An intermediate-level course continuing development and review of all language skills in an Italian cultural framework. Prerequisite: Italian 1410 and 1420 or consent of the instructor.
2320 Intermediate Italian II. (3-0) An intermediate-level course with continued practice in all language skills in an Italian cultural framework. Prerequisite: Italian 2310 or consent of the instructor.
Italian Study Abroad. (6-0) A course designed to strengthen intermediate to advanced skills of speaking, writing and grammar in an Italian cultural framework, in Florence, Italy (Summer I). Click here for more info on Texas State in Florence Program.
* All of the classes listed above offer valuable cultural information through personal instruction, videos, readings, and other media. These classes are all offered through the Correspondence & Extensions Office.
3304 Advanced Conversation and Grammar I. (3-0) COMING SOON: A course designed to strengthen advanced skills of writing and grammar in an Italian cultural framework. Prerequisite: Italian 2310 and 2320 or consent of the instructor.
Courses Rationale:
These courses will be offered as part of a series of courses in Italian language courses to support Art History & Music (Local performance) Studies at Texas State University, but can also fulfill first and second semester language requirements. These courses will introduce students to the basic structures of Italian and basic cultural concepts of the Italian presence in the world today. The courses will include topics of interest to students in a variety of fields, among them: Modern Languages, Art and Design, Music, Opera studies, Italo-American Studies, History, Anthropology, and studies of the Ancient Roman Diaspora.
