Established by the U.S. Congress in 1946, the Fulbright Program is the U.S. Government's premier scholarship program and is designed to give recent graduates opportunities in personal development and international experience.

Grantees plan their own programs which may include university coursework, independent library or field research, classes in a music conservatory or art school or special projects in the social or life sciences or combinations.

The program promotes cross cultural interaction and mutual understanding on a person to person basis in an atmosphere of academic integrity and intellectual freedom.

Eligibility
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens at the time of application.
  • Preference is given to applicants educated primarily in the U.S. (Study abroad experiences are fine.)
  • Applicants must have BA before beginning of grant.
  • Applicants must have sufficient proficiency in the written and spoken language of the host country to communicate with people and carry out the study.
  • Applicants must be in good health (certified by physician).
Application

Applications for the must be received in New York by October and must be filed by the campus Fulbright Committee. To begin an on-line application you must contact the campus Fulbright advisor ( Dr. Valentina Glajar, (CH 137). No applications are accepted after October. You may also obtain paper applications from Dr. Valentina Glajar.

Application may be made to only one type of Country program (full grant or teaching).

Deadlines
  • Applications must be submitted to the Fulbright Advisor by October.
  • Applicants must also submit official transcripts and have letters of recommendation sent to the Fulbright advisor by the October campus deadline.
  • It is highly recommended that you consult faculty or other advisors for comments on your proposal and autobiographical statement before submitting your application to the Fulbright Committee.
  • The Fulbright Committee will schedule an interview with the candidate to provide strength to the candidate's proposal and evaluate language skills.
  • The Fulbright Advisor will be submitting the completed application to New York also in October (check site for specific date).
Address

The Fulbright Scholarship is highly competitive and the successful applicant must carefully research the opportunities in universities of the Country he/she proposes for carrying out the projected program. The Graduate Fellowships Committee will assist students in preparing their application if sufficient time is allowed (at least six weeks prior to the campus deadline).
